Finance → Purposes (/finance/purposes) is the reference book of what money is for. Every transaction carries a purpose, and the purpose decides which P&L article the amount lands in.
| Column | Description |
|---|---|
| Actions | Edit and delete |
| Name | Human-readable name, shown when picking a purpose on a transaction |
| Code | Stable identifier used by imports and integrations |
| Type | Income or expense side |
| Category | Grouping used by reports |
| P&L article | Where the amount lands in the profit & loss report |
| Order | Sort order in the pickers |
There is a search box above the table — the list is long, and scrolling it is slower than typing three letters.
Add / the pencil open a form with Name, Code, Type, Category, P&L article and Sort order.
The P&L article is the field that matters most: it is what turns a pile of transactions into a readable report. A purpose without the right article does not lose money — it hides it in the wrong row of P&L, which is worse, because the total still adds up.
Delete asks for confirmation. A purpose already used by transactions should not be deleted — the history keeps pointing at it. Rename it instead if the wording no longer fits.
